Nissan Unveils 20-23 EV Concept, Hinting at Next-Gen Micra
Nissan has taken the wraps off its innovative 20-23 EV concept, offering a sneak peek into the upcoming generation of the Micra. This dynamic concept is a tribute to the 20th anniversary of Nissan’s European design center in Paddington, London.
- Micra EV Production:
Expected by 2026, the Micra EV will be manufactured on Nissan’s CMF-BEV platform, sharing it with Renault’s Renault 5 and Alpine A290 hot hatchback.
- Formula E Influence:
The 20-23 concept is designed to honor Nissan’s involvement in the Formula E race series, showcasing Nissan’s legacy in crafting bold hatchbacks.
- Sporty Urban Aesthetic:
The 20-23 is envisioned as a “sporty urban” vehicle, boasting a race-inspired design with prominent diffusers, a touring car-grade rear wing, oversized wheel arches, and ultra-low-profile racing tires.
- Eye-catching Elements:
Notable design elements include a roof scoop, racing numbers, scissor doors reminiscent of Lamborghini, and air-channeling louvers, underscoring Nissan’s tradition of injecting playful flair into the world of hatchbacks and city cars.
- Futuristic Racing Aesthetics:
The interior of the concept showcases a futuristic interpretation of a racing car’s stripped-down functionality. It features deep bucket seats accessed by climbing over foam-covered brace bars.
- Steering and Controls:
Instead of a traditional wheel, the driver grasps a yoke-style device housing an array of switches and buttons, with paddles located behind it to adjust the electric motor’s performance and regenerative brakes.
Production and Performance:
- Manufacturing Hub:
The all-electric Micra will be produced alongside the Renault 5 at the ElectriCity production facility in northern France.
- Power and Range:
Anticipate similar power and range figures to its counterpart, with a front-mounted motor generating 134hp and an estimated range of 400km.
Nissan in India:
While the Micra was previously available in India, Nissan now offers the Magnite SUV in the market. Soon, this SUV will feature an additional powertrain option – an AMT-gearbox paired with the petrol engine.
Nissan’s unveiling of the 20-23 EV concept marks a significant step forward in the realm of electric hatchbacks, setting the stage for a new era in urban mobility.
